* Iraqiya’s controversial remarks over ministers’ boycott termination
Members of Iraqiya List have made contradictory statements over the decision of three Iraqiya ministers who ended a boycott declared by their List. Only a day after the U.S. forces complete withdrawal, on Dec.19 Iraqiya ministers and lawmakers boycotted sessions in protest to government’s rejection of regional autonomy demands from Diyala and Salahaddin provincial councils, dominated by Iraqiya deputies.
Iraqiya further accused Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki of “unilateral ruling.” PM even sacked his Iraqiya deputy Saleh Mutlag after he called Maliki like a “dictator.” An arrest order for Iraqiya Vice President Tareq Hashemi further deteriorated the situation.
On Tuesday Electricity Minister Abdul-Kareem Aftan, Industry Minister Ahmed al-Karbuli and Provinces Minister Turhan al-Mufti ended the boycott and attended the session of Council of Ministers.
PM advisor, Maryarm Rais, earlier told AKnews some Iraqiya ministers had contacted the Council of Ministers saying they were threatened not to attend the sessions.
Maysun Damluji, a spokesperson for Iraqiya, told AKnews that Iraqiya leaders will meet soon to take a decision concerning “the ministers who did not comply with the boycott decision.”
She added some Iraqiya leaders are from outside Baghdad province. Therefore, the meeting will be held as soon as they return to the capital.
Damluji clarified that the ministers ended the boycott “without informing Iraqiya leadership and their presence [in the session] was against the boycott decision.”
Iraqiya leadership expelled six lawmakers from the List after they violated the boycott by attending the session of the House of Representatives on Thursday.
Earlier Dhafer Ani, an Iraqiya deputy, told AKnews that Iraqiya leadership was aware that its three ministers would end the boycott.
He added Iraqiya allowed for the ministers to end the boycott “since their presence was crucial for the interests of Iraqi citizens.”
Another Iraqiya deputy, Etab al-Duri also said that the ministers ended the boycott after consulting Iraqiya leadership
