* Iraqi List should name “efficient” candidates says NA deputy
03/02/2012 10:36BAGHDAD, Feb.3 (AKnews)- The largest Shiite bloc, the National Alliance, has indicated a nominee for the Interior Ministry and Iraqiya List should also nominate “acceptable” candidates for Defense Ministry, an NA deputy said.
Speaking to AKnews Mohammed al-Sayhud, said that all the components of the NA have agreed on a single candidate to run the Interior Ministry.
He declined to disclose the names saying now the NA is waiting to receive the names of the Iraqiya List candidates for Defense Ministry so that it can also announce the name of Interior Ministry candidate.
Under the political consensus the security ministries are distributed among major blocs. But so far since none of the blocs have agreed to the candidates of the other, the interior and defense ministries are run temporary by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and current Culture Minister Saadun al-Dalimi, respectively.
Before the end of 2010 the PM vowed to finalize the files of the suspended ministries in the course of only some weeks. But that never happed due to political disputes.
Sayhud said that his bloc expects Iraqiya to candidate “acceptable” personalities for the post “who can handle the position efficiently.”
He said that Iraqiya alliance earlier nominated five deputies for Defense Ministry and one of them was chosen but later the List withdrew the names and so far it has failed to name any “efficient” candidates.
He added there should be a political agreement over the candidates before they are voted to in the House of Representatives.
Last year the political bloc leaders met in the house of the Iraqi President Jalal Talabani in Baghdad and agreed to withdraw the names of their candidates and nominate new ones for the posts so that the PM can choose the new ministers in two weeks. That also did not take place.
